The only thing better than capturing beautiful families, is getting to do so on repeat. Recently, I had the pleasure of welcoming Justin and Alexa back in front of my camera as they prepare to welcome another beautiful baby girl. Their maternity session in Downtown Punta Gorda was full of warmth, laughter, and love, all against a backdrop that blended urban charm with waterfront serenity.

We started their session at the top of a local parking garage—a hidden gem in Punta Gorda for those golden hour skyline views. Later, we walked to Gilchrist Park, where the breeze off the harbor and the soft light made for dreamy, glowing portraits. It was the perfect evening for celebrating new life and growing love.

Why 30 Weeks is the Sweet Spot for Maternity Photos

Alexa was about 30 weeks along during our session, which I often recommend as the ideal timeframe for maternity photos. Here’s why this window (28–32 weeks) works so well for most expectant mamas:

• The baby bump is beautifully round: By this point in the third trimester, the bump is well-defined and shows up nicely on camera—especially in profile shots and soft silhouette lighting.
• Mom is generally more comfortable: In a healthy pregnancy, most women still feel fairly mobile and energized around 30 weeks, especially compared to the final few weeks. Alexa was glowing and at ease throughout our time together, which always translates to more relaxed and natural photos.
• Less risk of early labor or last-minute surprises: While anything can happen in pregnancy, the chances of an early delivery are lower at this stage, giving us peace of mind when scheduling your session.
• Flexibility with rescheduling: Weather in Southwest Florida can be unpredictable (hello, summer storms!), and having a cushion of a few extra weeks gives us room to reschedule if the skies don’t cooperate.
