There’s something undeniably romantic about an overcast day on the Gulf Coast. The soft light, the quiet breeze, the way the colors seem to deepen without the harshness of direct sun — it all came together perfectly for Samantha and Alejandro’s engagement session in Boca Grande.
The two were visiting Southwest Florida ahead of their 2027 destination wedding, and their session felt like such a beautiful reflection of the kind of celebration they’re planning: relaxed, meaningful, intimate, and full of intention.
While many couples hope for sunshine during their session, cloudy skies can be such an incredible gift creatively — and this evening proved exactly why. The overcast weather gave us the freedom to move through familiar locations in a completely different way. Without racing harsh light or working around strong shadows, we were able to slow down, explore, and lean into the softer, more romantic atmosphere that naturally unfolded around us.

And Boca Grande absolutely showed off.
The flowers throughout the area were beautifully in bloom, adding vibrant color and texture to nearly every corner we wandered through. Between quiet pathways lined with tropical greenery and the calm waterfront views, every stop felt effortlessly cinematic. The softer skies made every detail feel richer — the colors of Samantha’s dress, the coastal architecture, the greenery, the water — all of it carried this timeless, almost film-like quality.

As if the evening couldn’t get any more Florida, manatees even made an appearance during the session. It was one of those unexpected moments that instantly slows everything down. Samantha and Alejandro stood watching them together along the water, laughing and completely soaking in the moment. Those little unscripted moments always end up becoming some of my favorites to photograph because they’re real — not posed, not planned, just genuine connection and experience.

One of the most meaningful parts of the session came near the end of the evening.
When Samantha was younger, she would visit Boca Grande with family and always dreamed of one day getting married at a particular church in town. Before we wrapped up the session, we stopped in front of it for a few photographs — a quiet full-circle moment that made the session feel even more personal. There was something incredibly special about documenting the two of them there now, years after those childhood memories first began.
It’s moments like that which make engagement sessions about so much more than photos. They become part of the story.

Samantha and Alejandro’s session was romantic in the most effortless way — not because everything was perfectly planned, but because they fully embraced the experience together. The cloudy skies, the blooming flowers, the manatees, the sentimental locations — every piece came together to create a session that felt deeply personal to them and uniquely tied to this season of their lives.
If their engagement session is any indication of what their 2027 Southwest Florida wedding will feel like, it’s going to be something incredibly special.
Whether you’re envisioning a quiet beach evening, a sentimental location tied to your story, or a celebration that feels intentional and true to you, I’d love to help document it in a way that feels natural and meaningful.
